On average there are around ten applicants competing for each place at vet school, making it a highly selective field. There is no single official acceptance rate, but the published figures show how competitive it is.

UCAS figures reported by Vet Times show about 17,000 applications to veterinary science courses by 30 June 2025, with 2,480 students accepted eight days after A level results. For 2025 entry the University of Edinburgh made offers on just 12% of applications from students in the rest of the UK, 32% from overseas and 49% from Scotland. Our guide to getting into vet school sets out the full figures and what drives your own odds.

How can I increase my chances of acceptance?

Applicants must meet baseline requirements including grades and work experience. Beyond these, strong performance is essential in three further areas: the personal statement, the supplementary assessment questionnaires, and the interview. We offer specialised guidance to help you strengthen each of these.
