About SRUC Vet School

SRUC (Scotland's Rural College) has launched the BVSci Veterinary Science degree at its Aberdeen (Craibstone) campus, Scotland's first new veterinary school in over 150 years. The five-year programme uses a distributed model of veterinary education with a lecture-free final year based in clinical practice, and a strong commitment to rural and remote communities, farm and large animals.

The BVSci covers anatomy, physiology, animal behaviour and welfare, clinical practice and surgical techniques, with hands-on training across farm animals, equids, companion animals, exotics and wildlife. A distinctive feature is the distributed model, with a lecture-free final year spent on intra-mural rotations with partner practices. As with all UK vet students, candidates complete the standard extra-mural studies (EMS), and the school emphasises rural and remote practice.
